Ketamine Infusions

Ketamine is an anesthetic that has recently gained popularity in the psychiatric world. Several research articles have shown improvements in patients with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Literature also supports improvements in patients suffering from chronic pain.

This is great news for patients who have been battling a psychiatric condition that has not improved substantially with therapy, medications, or other interventions.

A medical provider or nurse will place an IV. Typically, the IV is placed in your arm. The provider will then start the infusion which will run for 45 minutes. During the infusion, patients may feel bodily and mental sensation due to the ketamine being introduced to the body. Supportive staff are present to support patients during the infusion. The infusion can stop at any time and the infusion rate can be slowed to reduce any unwanted effects.

Yes. Incoordination is common after an infusion and patients aren’t able to operate a motor vehicle.
