Why Do We Use Yoga/Meditation As One of Our Tools?

Researchers have looked into the effectiveness of yoga for treatment of depression and anxiety. Holger Cramer, PhD, and his colleagues conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of several published medical articles regarding the subject. What that means in plain English is that some smart people combined the findings of a bunch of other smart people regarding yoga therapy for anxiety and depression. These were their findings:

Yoga can be used as an ancillary treatment for elevated depressive symptoms. Ancillary, in this case, means it should be used in conjunction with other treatments. 

There was no conclusive evidence that yoga was an effective treatment for anxiety disorders and more robust studies are necessary for proper analysis. 

So there you have it. Yoga is effective when used in combination with other treatments for depression. It is not so effective for anxiety directly.
